Frequently asked questions

How does WhatsApp Business API pricing work?

Since July 1, 2025, Meta charges per delivered template message rather than per conversation. There are three paid categories — marketing, utility, and authentication — and rates depend on the recipient's country. Replies to customers inside the 24-hour customer service window (service messages) are free.

Which WhatsApp messages are free?

Three kinds: service messages (free-form replies inside the 24-hour window that opens when a customer messages you), utility templates delivered inside that window, and all messages within the 72-hour free window that opens when a customer messages you from a click-to-WhatsApp ad or Facebook page CTA.

Where do I find the exact rates for my country?

In Meta's official rate cards, published on the WhatsApp Business Platform pricing page (developers.facebook.com). Rates vary by the recipient's country code and are updated periodically — that's why this calculator asks you to enter your market's rates instead of guessing them.

Why do WhatsApp platforms charge more than these Meta fees?

Many WhatsApp platforms add a 10–25% markup on top of Meta's per-message rates, plus subscription tiers, per-user fees, and AI credits. Always compare the platform's rates against Meta's official rate card. (ChatMunshi charges a flat monthly price with no per-message markup — you pay Meta's fees only.)

If customers message me first, what does it cost?

Replying to them within 24 hours is completely free — no template needed, no per-message fee. For a business answering inbound enquiries (like a receptionist), the bulk of traffic can genuinely be $0 in Meta fees.

Tired of platforms with per-message markups?

ChatMunshi is flat-rate: AI receptionist, bookings, team inbox — from $19/month with zero markup on Meta's fees. Most receptionist traffic is in the free service window anyway.
